Last week Cellar Mouse, Mudpie, Cellar Roomie and I met to have our first sparkling battle of the holiday season. From the start, we found it difficult to pare down our options. Do we go Brut or Extra Dry (Translation: “not a sugar bomb” or “extra sweet”?) Champagne or Sparkling? (“French, like a kiss from a bad boyfriend,” or “Not-French. Not Even Close.”) Then there are all the varietals that can be used to make champagne: pinot noir, chardonnay, and pinot blanc, among others. Spend enough time contemplating these choices, and the mind begins to fizz. Then you start grabbing the first bottle that stands out on the shelf. Hence, Rosé. Continue reading
